The Vision

Founded by Donald R. Yance on March 1, 2005, the Mederi Foundation, a 501 (c)(3), is being developed in Southern Oregon’s destination city of Ashland. Ashland, known for its favorable climate, attractive landscape, cultural attractions, and healthy lifestyle, is the perfect setting for the Foundation’s activities. Mederi, which in Latin means “to heal and become whole,” will be a multidimensional wholistic center to promote the science and tradition of natural healing and to conduct associated therapeutic, educational and scientific research programs. Mederi’s established programs will welcome health care professionals in training as well as individuals seeking natural therapies and spiritual retreats from all over the world.

Donald Yance MH, RH (AHG), CN, SFO

Donald Yance is a practicing Clinical Master Herbalist and Certified Nutritionist. He is a graduate of the Sequoyah College of Herbology and the National Institute of Nutritional Education. Mr. Yance is a registered professional member of the American Herbalists Guild (AHG) and the National Association of Nutritional Professionals (NANP). He is also trained as a Secular Franciscan (SFO), which equips him with the breadth and wisdom to touch on the spiritual aspects of healing. Mederi is being created to consolidate and build upon Donald’s lifelong achievements in the field of wholistic medicine. First and foremost is the Centre for Natural Healing (“CNH”) that he established over 15 years ago. CNH is a holistic health clinic and apothecary that continues to serve the greater community by providing herbal and nutritional consultations to thousands of patients. Donald specializes in applying wholistic therapies for the treatment of patients with cancer, heart disease and other chronic health conditions. His mastery of the Eclectic Tradition, integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts, his specific use of nutrition and vast knowledge of up-to-date scientific research, together has led him to develop his own ‘Triphasic Model™’ that demonstrates his exclusive, integrative approach to healing. This all contributes to his unique ability and success. Throughout the development of his specialization research, education and formula development have been critical components of his work. Mr. Yance has authored two books, Herbal Medicine, Healing and Cancer and the soon to be released Thriving Beyond Surviving: Elite Herbs and Natural Compounds for Mastering Stress and Aging. He has also been involved in authoring and co-authoring dozens of articles that have appeared in national industry publications and medical journals. In addition, he has been building a library of well established, world-class research on the medicinal value and multifaceted interactions of over one hundred botanicals and their key constituents, with major emphasis in the area of Oncology. On the education side, each year Mr. Yance gives several lectures across the USA at major hospitals and conferences for both patients and health care providers, as well as making radio appearances, particularly in the area of cancer prevention and healing. Donald has also established a clinical Herbal Medicine Training Program for Health Care Professionals. With regard to the development of specific formulas, Mr. Yance founded Natura Health Products, in order to deliver un-paralleled natural medicines to his patients and for the increasing number of practitioners committed to using the highest quality remedies available for their patients. The current Natura portfolio consists of over a dozen formulations derived from botanical and nutritional agents acquired from around the world. These products have made a significant contribution to his tangible success in improving the health of his patients, specifically by providing therapeutic amounts of key ingredients that would otherwise be unattainable. All of these activities, including those services offered at CNH, will be transferred to Mederi. Natura Health Products will continue to operate as a separate, yet synergistic entity. Through the efforts of a well organized team of professionals, facilitated by Donald’s leadership, he will be able to significantly increase his contributions and outreach in these areas as described below.

Wholistic Clinic

A team of experienced herbalists, nutritionists and other wholistic health practitioners, directed by Mr. Yance, combine their extensive knowledge and wisdom to design unique protocols integrating modern research with time-proven traditional healing modalities for a wide range of health challenges with a special focus on integrative cancer care. The clinic also offers a unique and extensive dispensary of herbal and nutritional formulations carefully chosen for their quality, purity, potency and clinical effectiveness.

Health Education

Professional Clinical Training: providing experiential, advanced training and instruction in the field of natural medicine and integrative oncology for health care professionals.

Public / Community Outreach Programs: offering classes, seminars, workshops and lectures for the general public focusing on topics such as cooking with whole foods, basic nutrition, herbal remedies, native medicinal plant walks and organic gardening.

Fellowship: available for qualified health care professionals who wish to establish a wholistic, cooperative and inter-disciplinary style of cancer care by participation in a formal association.

Research

Through the documentation and compilation of reliable scientific and clinical based research in areas such as cancer, heart disease, and other chronic health conditions, Mederi intends to demonstrate the benefits of a comprehensive, integrative approach to health care that emphasizes the implementation of botanical and nutritional medicine protocols. This important research serves to validate the current integrative medicine model, as well as give further credence to the new paradigm Mr. Yance has established.

Wellness Retreats

Discover how to create harmony and balance between the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of healing. Persons attending a retreat will experience a living model of total health and restoration that integrates herbal and nutritional medicine, nature, exercise, whole foods, counseling, lifestyle modification, bodywork, hydrotherapy, music therapy, art therapy, prayer and meditation.

Scientific Advisory Board

Mederi’s Scientific Advisory Board consists of a diverse group of accomplished medical professionals that will play an important role in Mederi’s development by providing guidance on specific initiatives and in establishing formal academic alliances with other organizations.

2007-2008 Development Plans

Over the next two years, key Mederi initiatives will include:

Our (10th) Herbal Medicine Training Program for Health Care Professionals will take place in the Spring of ‘07. Up to 12 students are accepted into this week-long intensive in Integrative Oncology with an emphasis on Donald Yance’s proprietary ‘Triphasic Model™’. The program is held twice annually. Budget: $100,000

The development of a state of the art interactive website as a professional resource for doctors and health-care providers delivering current research on the use of botanical and nutritional remedies in oncology, and other areas. Budget: $150,000

Pilot studies in Clinical Integrative Oncology to validate the importance of botanical and nutritional medicine for healing, sustaining and increasing quality of life. Budget: $250,000

Towards these objectives, as well as the development of Mederi’s multidimensional wholistic center, we are looking to raise a total of $1 Million Dollars. Any contributions towards the advancement of Mederi’s goals are most gratefully appreciated.
